Making Members Part of the Story for PowerMoves.com

Wabash Valley Power Association is an electric generation and transmission cooperative that serves 26 rural electric co-ops in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio. These co-ops all have annual meetings where they talk about the business of bringing power to rural families and businesses—which is not necessarily anyone’s best idea for how to spend a summer Saturday. But it’s important business, so many of these annual meetings are big community events, with food, music, and entertainment for the kids.

So we went to visit one: Steuben County REMC, way up north in Angola, Indiana. And we took the opportunity to shoot a little video for PowerMoves.com, a website we developed where co-op members can find information about saving energy and get incentives for upgrading to more energy-efficient light, HVAC equipment, and more.

Tasked with combining annual meeting coverage with “Hey, here’s a fun website that can help you save” content, we put a man on the figurative street (really a high school parking lot), armed only with energy-saving info. Then we put him in a bounce house.

The result gets the personality of the organization across and sneaks in a little of the content the website offers—all in a way that we like to think is more fun than voting in board members.
