The art director creates concepts and designs—working both independently and as part of a creative team, and according to supplied strategic and creative input—to maintain the agency’s and/or client(s)’ brand image and achieve strategic goals and objectives.

Reports to:                             Associate Creative Director
Position Type:                       Full-time
Expected Hours of Work:     Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Here’s what you’D HAVE TO DO

  • Works with other art directors, designers, and writers/producers to concept and complete assigned projects and campaigns.
  • Under the direction of the associate creative director, works with designers and writers/producers to concept and complete assigned projects and campaigns.
  • Creates print, collateral, outdoor, digital, broadcast materials, and “come what may.”
  • Collaborates with members of the Digital Strategy, Accounts, and Creative teams to ensure coordination between traditional, digital, and interactive advertising and marketing materials.
  • Maintains high skill levels in software programs required to perform assigned job functions and completes training in new design software as needed.
  • Works with associate creative directors to vet and select outside vendors and freelancers, including photographers, videographers, illustrators, models, print shops, and editors as needed to fulfill production of each.
  • Art directs videos, photo sessions, and press-proofing as needed.
  • Works with the Accounts team and traffic manager to complete projects within the assigned budget and scope.
  • Archives, maintains and prepares art files for production in accordance with creative team standards to assist other department members in locating necessary files and references.
  • Participates in client meetings and presentations as needed.
  • Provides materials for creative presentations and new business.
  • Maintains high skill levels in software programs required to perform assigned job functions and completes training in new design software as needed.
  • Stays up-to-date on the latest design, marketing and advertising research, trends, and tools.

Here’s what it takes to get your foot in the door

  • 3–5 years’ professional design experience required, agency experience preferred
  • Degree in art, graphic design, or related field preferred, but not required
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work both independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to present ideas, negotiate, problem-solve, and deliver timely results
  • Knowledge of print, web, information, and interactive design standards
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency with budget and time management
  • Experience with project management software

A few other things to know

Our Work Environment:
This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, digital camera, and scanners. Additionally, the role may use video and/or audio editing software and equipment.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time.

Travel is extremely limited but may be required for out-of-state client projects and meetings or professional development.
